Then he was named after the village he was residing as Nawagamuwe Raja. In 1978 he bade goodbye and went to live with Dharmavijaya VEDA Ralahamy yet another veteran native physician. His second home was with Mr Herbert Wickremasinghe a member of Parliament then, who raised him on his estate in Horana. He is 10.75 feet tall, his tusk length is 4.11 feet, one of the tallest tame tuskers in Asia and is considered a National treasure. Born in 1953 Nedungamuwe Raja is 68 years of age as at today.
Nedungamuwe Raja’s first home was at the Neelammahara Temple Piliyandala with the Bhikku. Thus Nedungamuwe Raja and Nawam Raja were brought to Sri Lanka. The overjoyed Maharaja gave him two elephant calves instead of one. He then asked for an Indian elephant calf. He was elated by this and in appreciation offered a gift of his choice to the Bhikku. At the end of the treatment period the Maharaja was completely cured. A Buddhist bhikku who was a veteran native physician from Sri Lanka offered to treat the Maharaja. In the early 1950’s A Maharaja from Mysoor India was ailing from a relatively long term mental illness.
